Priors Ford Leatherhead - Home of the late Donald Campbell
empt.
Donald Campbell CBE was simultaneous water and land speed record-holder with the famous Bluebird machines who died on 4 January, 1967, when his Bluebird K7 boat flipped on Coniston Water in the Lake District during another record attempt. He was the son of the famous racing driver Sir Malcolm Campbell (1885-1948) who set nine land speed records and four water speed records in the 1920s and ’30s, also in Bluebird vehicles. Donald himself set a total of eight speed records, one on land and seven on the water between 1955 and his death. By 1967 he had added nearly 100mph to the water speed record that stood before his first attempt.
